If I Could Fly
by
Sam Wilkinson
If I could fly,
What would I do?
Could I look down and see the world
Like you?
If I could sing,
A song of lovely words,
Could I change the way some people
See this world,
What would they think?
Would they understand,
I'm only trying to show them
Another way to play their hand,
And through their eyes,
Could I see what they were thinking,
Save their souls from hurt,
And save their hearts from sinking,
How could they ever break free,
If it's only their side they can see,
How could they ever know
that what you speak is true?
When you don't believe it yourself,
Do you?
If I could run
Wherever I wanted to,
Could I run away from trouble
Like some people do?
Where could I go?
Places far away,
Would the trouble follow me,
Everywhere I stayed?
If I could walk
More than a thousand miles,
Could I ever reach a place
Where everybody smiles?
Behind the grins,
Is there a hidden sorrow?
Always told to keep it hidden,
Until tomorrow,
Where can they run to?
They don't have anywhere to go,
You say you're trying to help them
But when you're asked about it
You pretend like you don't know
If I could see
From every point of view,
Could I ever figure out,
What was really true?
If I could hope
For something from before,
How would I know it's the right thing,
I was hoping for,
Who would I save?
Who would I leave behind,
How would I know who to choose
Without looking in their mind?
