This World We Made

by

Sam Wilkinson

Cry baby cry, there's nothing you can do

By the time you can talk it'll be too late for you

In this world we made

Killed with our own blade

Cry by cry, you know you want to

As you open your eyes, what do you see?

Do you remember the world we wanted to be?

We were stuck in our dreams

So diamond it seemed

Till we opened our eyes to reality

Hope baby hope, we open our ears

Some people have known this for so many years

I guess it's no surprise

They followed the lies

To them it meant less blood, sweat and tears

What will they do with their pockets of gold

Their floorboards are warm but their hearts are so cold

What will they leave

for their children to breathe

Air made of metal through masks made of stone

When the trees grow tall and we're no longer here

And you're up in your spaceship with nobody near

Then will you know

You've got nowhere to go

No matter how much money you got to dry up your tears

As you're floating away you look down at this earth

Now can you see what any of it's worth?

In your empty hand

Your legacy stands,

But you hide it away as your fingers curl.
